What is a CTF?

Jeopardy vs attack-defence, flag format, scope, teams and the ethics pledge.

A Capture The Flag (CTF) is a game where you find hidden strings called flags, usually shaped like flag{...}, by solving security puzzles. Jeopardy CTFs give you independent challenges in categories (web, crypto, forensics, reversing, OSINT, pwn) worth points; attack-defence CTFs have teams patch and exploit live services. Before anything else, read the rules and the scope: you may only touch the targets the challenge lists. Everything in Exorvio is a practice target we built to be solved.
